Matt Reed

Matt Reed hadn’t even graduated from high-school when he was first introduced to LIGHT International.

This drummer from Birmingham, Alabama, was helping the worship team of a new church plant – Church of the Highlands – when he met the LIGHT International team who were also assisting in the church’s launch.

“They were really unique,” says Matt, who has plans to make a huge impact on the Christian music scene both nationally and internationally. “They believed in me at such an early age. I was only 16, 17, and they saw that God had big plans for my life.”

When he did graduate from high school, the teen, moved to Fort Lauderdale in 2005 to apply his passion for music and drumming skills to the worship team at the LIGHT International church plant, the Harbour.

“During that time the ministry, especially Darren Davis and Justin Jarvis, began to provide spiritual leadership and covering for my life,” says Matt, now a graduate of the School of Audio Engineering in Nashville. “They saw a leadership potential in my life and how it related to the body of Christ, and they trained me up so I can train others.”

After serving on the worship team at The Harbour, Matt decided to launch out as a LIGHT International missionary to use his gifts wherever God may lead.

He recently interned with a church plant in Washington D.C. and is now residing in Nashville to further his training in the music industry with professional music producers. In addition to being mentored, Matt is traveling around the country producing CD’s for a variety of Christian solo artists and church praise and worship teams. He is also helping with the worship team for another church plant in Nashville.

“It’s been challenging because I have to raise support to fund most of these music projects,” he said. “But my heart is to help people in the local church who have original worship songs to get their music out to the Christian population so I’ve been trusting God to make a way.”

Matt helps coordinate worship for all of LIGHT International’s annual conferences, and has a long-term commitment to produce their worship CD’s.

“Ever since I was a kid, I loved music and playing the drums,” he says. “LIGHT international helped me streamline that passion for the Lord. I want my to be an instrument to help others glorify the Lord by seeing them raised up in their gifts.”

As a LIGHT missionary, Matt receives direction, wisdom and insight from the ministry leadership to help with his daily decisions. He hopes to one day be able to do the same thing for others in this nation and beyond.

“I feel a calling to walk through life with the LIGHT International team,” says Matt. “They have poured into my life all the possibilities of what God could do and have inspired me to do better. It is so much more than just ministry; they’re some of my closest friends.”
